Pioneers
LMD Vacuum Excavation is one of the very first pioneers of Vacuum Excavation within the UK. We have the most diverse and flexible fleet throughout the UK.
Mick Dysart, Founder and Managing Director, invested in his first Vacuum Excavator way back in 2012. Now, by being one of the biggest Vac Ex companies throughout the UK we have over 40 machines within our fleet.
LMD has 4 operation depots that are based in Chesterfield (Head Office), Cannock, Peterborough and Scotland. All of these are located alongside the UK’s motorway network to enable our drivers to get to site more efficiently.
LMD Vacuum Excavation are continuing to invest heavily in our current fleet and in new additions that will be coming to us soon.

Culture
LMD is led by practical, problem-solving engineers and our culture is open, friendly and collaborative. We are incredibly proud that so many of our customers have been with us from the start of our journey.
As a company we pride ourselves on the standard of our induction for new starters. All of our engineers have a mandatory 3 month induction upon commencement of their start date with us.
This introduces new starters to our company procedures and covers:
- Shea Gas training
- Theory
- A practical introduction to Vacuum Excavators
- Working at height
- Safety harness training
All of our drivers also undergo a FORS introduction and online assessments. Plus, a practical driving assessment, eyesight checks and driving licence checks to confirm their qualifications.
Here at LMD, safety is our top priority – therefore we have a commitment to all of our staff to supply them with the correct training and make sure that they complete the required qualifications before heading onto site.
Construction, highways and utilities
We have worked with some of the UK’s leading companies from Utilities to Construction, Railways to Motorway repairs and so many more. Industries use our services for a wide range of uses. For example:
- Excavations
- Silo clearing
- safe removal of materials around delicate machinery
- Sand removal from beachfront businesses!
Vacuum Excavation is already well-established on highway projects, because traffic disruption needs to be minimised and in the construction of water, gas and electricity networks.
By using Vacuum Excavations, this avoids the catastrophic human and financial costs of cable strikes. Due to this, it has been one of the key drivers in the acceptance of Vacuum Excavation, as a safe and cost-effective alternative to conventional mechanical excavation methods.
LMD proves time and time again that they can find innovative methods for the safe clearance of a range of products. Our customer base includes many National and International companies, working in Utilities, Civil Engineering, Housebuilding and so many more.
Special projects
Our Special Projects Division (SPD) has worked in petrol forecourts, boiler rooms and quarries. LMD has emptied freight train hoppers and ships’ holds.
The SPD has ‘cleaned out’ around industrial plants, quarry conveyors and recycling facilities. Thanks to this, it now has clients in the Biomass, Geotechnical and chemical industries.
As a result of our Special Projects Division, LMD is pioneering the use of Vacuum Excavation across a variety of industrial and commercial sectors.
Plus, due to the diversity and flexibility of our fleet, this has enabled us to solve virtually every challenge our clients have given us, and we will only continue to do so in the future.
