Meet the LMD team: Craig – Mechanic and Fitter
Craig is a member of LMD’s team of mechanics and fitters looking after its fleet of vacuum excavators.
Craig joined the Corps of Royal Electric and Mechanical Engineers after leaving school. He spent six years learning how to maintain and repair HGVs, with overseas tours to many countries including Afghanistan, Poland, Ukraine and Estonia. Whilst in the Army, Craig obtained his tank licence.
After leaving the armed forces, Craig initially worked for Wilko in their vehicle maintenance unit. Subsequently, Craig gained experience in maintaining railway plant such as cranes and MEWPs (Mobile Elevated Working Platforms), and then 360˚ excavators and bulldozers. Prior to joining LMD Vacuum Excavation, Craig worked for Balfour Beatty:
‘Truck chassis are relatively simple to work on. Vacuum excavators are far more challenging. There’s always something interesting and different to tackle.’
Outside work, Craig’s passion is restoring classic cars. His current ‘collection’ includes: two original minis, including a relatively rare Mini Equinox in purple; two Escort Mk1; a Triumph TR6; and, a 1989 Land Rover Defender.
