Workshop-based HGV Fitter

LMD Vacuum Excavation, is looking for a full-time Workshop-based HGV Fitter to join our team.

LMD Vacuum Excavation has one of the largest fleet of vacuum excavators in the UK, with several more on order. Furthermore, our fleet is the most varied and flexible in the country ranging from small tracked units, through the UK’s only urban excavator, to powerful triple fan units and our new 6WD all-terrain vacuum excavator.

As the Workshop-based HGV Fitter you will be a key member of the team maintaining our fleet of 25+ commercial vehicles and carrying out MOT preparation works. LMD’s chassis of choice if Mercedes Benz, but the fleet also contains MAN, Volvo and others.

You will have a City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent in vehicle maintenance or mechanical engineering. A variety of experience in maintaining commercial vehicles and  construction plant would be highly desirable.

LMD is growing. We have a dynamic team in place and you will play a critical role in maximising the availability of our fleet through effective maintenance, repair and MOT preparation. There is considerable scope for further progression within the company as we continue to grow.

Vacuum Excavator Operatives & Trainees

LMD Vacuum Excavation is one of the leading providers of vacuum excavation services in the UK. In simple terms, vacuum excavators are large ‘hoovers’ fixed to an HGV chassis. They use vacuum excavation to excavate rather than mechanical or hand digging. They are principally used on construction, highways and utility projects.

LMD Vacuum Excavation’s main depot is based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, We operate nationally and have the most diverse and flexible fleet of vacuum excavators in the country.


LMD has recently added new vacuum excavators to its fleet and we are now looking to recruit vacuum excavator operatives and trainees. These opportunities are full-time positions. They entail working at sites throughout mainland UK and across various industries.

Full training will be provided. The training covers both operation of the vacuum excavator and driver HGV Class 2 or above.



Role details:

Full-time position operating LMD vacuum excavators on sites across the UK.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • HGV Class 2 driving licence (desirable, not essential)
  • Flexibility and availability to work away from home, night shifts and weekend shifts when required
  • CSCS card (desirable, not essential)
  • Candidates must live within a commutable distance from Chesterfield, Derbyshire
  • Willing to work as part of a team as well as individually
