Deep excavation on a water treatment plant modernisation project

Major modernisation works to a key wastewater treatment plant were carried out by a water company as part of its AMP6 programme. The works included increasing the capacity of the plant and upgrading water treatment equipment.

LMD was brought in by the principal contractor to expose the water mains infrastructure on site. Using vacuum excavation ensured the plant could remain operational throughout the programme of works.

The excavation depth was over 7m in areas of the site. LMD deployed one of the Mega Arm long reach excavators in its fleet to undertake the work. Arm length extensions and additional pipe sections were also required to accommodate the excavation depth.
